Microsoft to open retail outlet in North Austin

RBR Staff Writer Published 07 February 2012

Microsoft plans to open its 16th retail shop at the Domain shopping center in North Austin in the near future. The new store will be the firm's second in Texas.

The company has sent out a Facebook tease late last week announcing Austin as the location of its next retail outlet, reported Statesman. A company spokeswoman said details on the new shop will be provided in a few weeks.

Last summer, Microsoft officials informed about plans to open 75 stores during the next two to three years, noting that its goal was to open enough outlets to rival Apple stores.

The consumer electronics retailer operates one of its two Austin stores in the Endeavor Real Estate Group's Domain development.

The tech major began building shops in high-profile retail locations in fall 2009 in conjunction with the release of its new operating system Windows 7.

The Microsoft Store sells PCs from a variety of hardware vendors, in addition to selling its own operating systems and applications.
