Apple taps Dixons Retail CEO
Consumer electronics major Apple has named John Browett, the chief executive officer (CEO) of European electronics retailer Dixons Retail, as senior vice president of Retail.
Browett will be reporting to Apple chief executive Tim Cook. Beginning in April 2012, Browett will be responsible for Apple's retail strategy and the continued expansion of its retail stores around the world.
Prior to joining Dixons, Browett held a series of executive positions at Tesco, including CEO of Tesco.com.
Browett succeeds Ron Johnson, who left Apple to run JC Penney in November last year. Johnson was credited with creating Apple's highly successful retail strategy and building a network of more than 300 stores.
